What's this About?
I was thinking the other day about what I could write in this blog of mine. Hmmm. Jerry Seinfeld had a TV "show about nothing", so I thought about a blog about nothing. Trouble is, his nothing was a lot more interesting than my nothing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my "nothing" immensely....it's just that I'm skeptical that anyone else would enjoy it quite as much as I do; after all, it's MY nothing, not your's.
Two nights ago I watched "Braveheart" (Mel Gibson) and loved it. I really like historic epics, especially if they have some sweeping battle scenes and heroic struggles.
Last night I watched "Firewall" (Harrison Ford). Ok, but not his best stuff. The techie stuff was a little silly too.
Tonight I get to see "Bones" and "House". Great shows...not that they in any way accurately show what happens in real labs and hospitals, but if they did, they wouldn't be nearly as much fun. In real life no physician, except MAYBE a clinical pathologist, would have any idea at all how to do a lab test. Many aren't sure where the lab is. That's not a bad thing; it's not their job to do that stuff. It's their job to make sense of the test results I provide for their patient. So in real life, you'd never, ever see a physician doing many of the things you see House & Company doing.
Well, I better go for now. It's time for me to go to work and watch bacteria grow. It's not an exciting TV plot, but it is real, and very important to the patient we got the bacteria out of. Reminds me; I need to call H. Down in Miami and see if I can borrow that new PCR thermocycler they had on the show last week if they're not using it. Might help us get a handle on that MRSA issue.
